Baby milestone card ideas: what to write each month
A monthly card works best when it is quick to fill in. Pick the same spot and the same pose every month, add one or two numbers and one small memory. Here is a simple plan you can follow with our milestone card maker.
What to put on every card
- The age ("3 months") and the date.
- Weight and length from the latest check-up, if you like keeping track.
- One favourite thing: a toy, a song, a food.
- A short note in your own words about this month.
Month by month prompts
- Newborn: who came to visit, the first outfit, the name story.
- 1-2 months: first smile, first bath, the sound of the first laugh.
- 3-4 months: holding the head up, rolling over, reaching for toys.
- 5-6 months: first solid food, sitting with support, first teeth showing up.
- 7-9 months: crawling, first words like "mama" or "dada", peekaboo.
- 10-12 months: pulling up to stand, first steps, the birthday outfit.
Every baby moves at their own pace. If a prompt does not fit, write what you actually saw that month.
Photo tips
- Use window light, not flash, and keep the same corner of the room.
- Put a soft blanket or a plain wall behind the baby so the card stays the focus.
- Take a few shots in one go and choose the best one. A calm moment after a feed works well.
- Include a stuffed toy in every photo, to show how much baby has grown.
Make the cards
Open the monthly milestone card maker, add the photo and details, and download a PDF to print. Not sure of the month? Use the baby age calculator. For printing advice see our printing tips.
